Damn you guys. 5 years ago I built a koi pond, ( 4.0x 1.8x 0.8 ). I did everything myself, without advice, and although my koi are healthy,I have paid the penalties (in water bills) ever since. My koi have now outgrown the pond and I have decided to build them a new home which will be approx 6.0x 4.0x 1.6. This time I decided to do my homework, and found your site. The amount of info available here is overwhelming, (not to say confusing), and I am now almost paralysed with indecision..
The basic concept I have is to build 4 filter boxes in an "over under" format which will contain my bio media. These will be situated behind my waterfall. I am going to fill in my existing pond, raise it by about .5m, and turn it into a water garden with a stream going into the pond. The water garden and the waterfall will be fed by outlets from the filterboxes.
1/ Does this layout sound workable or is flawed?
2/ There are so many suggestion regarding pumps. What would be a good quality, low maintenance, affordable, pump to use?
3/ I am going to build an ouside wall, throw a slab. put in a pool liner, and build an inside wall over the pool liner, then plaster. Is thsi necessary is is ther a more affordable ( and workabkle) way of doing it?
That will do for starters although I am sure I will have dozens more questions.
I could reall use some advice here guys. I do not have a lot of money so designer stuff is out.
Please HELP ME!
