we have decided that 28 800l is going to be the final size of my pond.6m x 3.1 x 1.6m deep.could anyone please tell me what kind of filtration system i will be needing??

1.i will be having 2 bottom drains going to a 3 x2 sand bag filter and a 50l ultra zap bio filter.would that be sufficient??
2.would a 50mm bond paver 35 mpa be fine to build the walls with as i will be building 2 walls around the whole pond??
3.what reinforcing would i need for the pond?
4.and lastly how would i build a settlement chamber?

sorry for all the questions but i dont want to mess anything up.thank you for your time and patience.

Hi Sean, I will still go for gravity fed and low energy pumps but if you go this route, the 50l biofilter might be a bit small for your biological filtration.

I do not understand the pavers. Do you want to build a double wall and then put the pavers against the wall?

If you work on 30 000lt ( with 2 sand bags per 10000lt water) you will need 2 x 3 bag sand filters and 2 x 50lt (or 4x25lt) Ultra zap Bio filters.

All I can say is to read through my site to get an alternate point of view and then go with what makes sense to you. Sand filters, as Pieter and I will disagree for all time, are refugee technology from the 1970's. Use what you like, but know this. If you use 50mm bottom drains you are going to be restricted for all time to high pressure high running cost water pumps. It's no fun paying R1000 to R1200 per 0.75 kW pump every month when you could spend that money on fish, food and fun...

hi thank you for all your responses.it goes a far way especially to people like myself that is still learning.but im now confused.could anyone assist in giving me a full filter setup for my pond?if it was your pond what filters,pumps etc would you go for.there is no better advise than that from experts like yourselves.

hi paul i do domestic and industrial road paving so i have alot of 35mpa 50mm bond pavers lying around.i will upload a pic of them tomorrow.thanks sean
