Hi there guys im a bit wooried as my PH reading is at 6.4..
my koi seem fine, all are swimming , eating, and behaving normal.
I read that i can use Bicarb soda to increase the PH,
Is there any other medium that i can use to increase the Ph level, Please Help.

Yes, Bicarb soda will increase the PH.

You can also use Oyster shells or Sea Salt to increase the PH.

But i think your pond need some water changes.

It is best to take three pH readings:

1) what is the pH of your water source (tap or bore hole)?

2) Take a reading first thing in the morning

3) Take a reading late in the afternoon.

Ph below 7 is not good. Although the ammonia is less toxic at this pH th ebacteria in the biofiltres need an alkaline pH of about 7.5 - 8.5 to function properly.

I did a reading this morning again and its 6.2 - 6.4 in that level.
when i get home at 5 ill do another reading.

I use Tap water chris.

I do regular cleaning and water changes.

Where in JHB can i buy oyster shells .
I did copy some info from the Koi4U website, on how to rise the PH level using, plaster of paris and clay..

So i may give that a try.

You might also consider placing a few cement bricks in your filter chamber. This cause a gradual increase in PH, but the best is to get hold of Oyster shells. The shells will reduce the acids and stop operating once the pH reaches 7, and buffer your pH, preventing it from pH swings. Bicarb will work but might cause pH swings and might increase your pH far beyond 7 if you are not very careful.
