Pet superstore chain Pets at Home is to be sold to private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) in a £955m deal.
The Cheshire-based firm currently has more than 250 outlets and has been growing at the rate of around 20 new shops a year.
Pets at Home sells animal food, pet accessories such as cat beds and dog coats, and small animals including gerbils, geckos, rabbits and fish in its stores.
It also operates 54 veterinary centres.
It employs more than 4,200 staff and in the year to last March, posted underlying earnings of £70m on turnover of £404.2m.
