Very nice Pieter. Give us some more pics. Age?

Pleasing pattern that is well balanced over the fish. Good shiro for a stressed fish so she will show well. Good sashi and kiwa.
Only potencial drawback might be because the pattern sits just about 1 or 2 rows above the lateral line - so the pattern might end up like a 'saddle' when the matures - but it's only a maybe - they all develop differently so maybe it will stretch with her growth. Her hi is a bit orange but I think she just needs a bit of Vitamin D - ie. sunshine!

Thank you Chris, Ernst.

This female was imported last year in June as a 16 cm Tosai. She has been growing on in a 60 000 liter pond that is lightly stocked. I am not too worried about the Hi because it is deep and thick and she is not a full two years. From day one we were worried that the marking may become too small as the fish grow bigger, so yes Ernst you are perfectly right, she is just hanging on at this stage. Time will tell! She is still in a quarantine pond, so photos will not be a problem. I may lack the skills but will try, tomorrow afternoon.

Sakai female no 2, 46 cm. Sister to the one above.

Also imported June 2009 as a 16 cm tosai.

Came back from growing on in big concrete pond.

Any comments on this one?

To me one of the most exiting things about koi keeping is yo see the development of a fish after a few months in the "growing on pond".

This Kohaku Female from Sakai was brought back to my pond during the last week. Sorry she is also a bit stressd. She is a little younger than the above two females (Brought in during October 2009) and measures 44 cm

Any comments on No 3?

Hi Pieter

Ek het skadu net net so groot soos my dam, so my visse kry net middag son.

Dankie
Karel

Pieter,

If the head pattern had a horseshoe shape and if the red did not bleed into the right eye it would have been an excellent Inazuma Moyo!

PS. The "Menkabburi" could also be less "Maki-ga-okii"

Dutchman

Ernst is absolutely right. The following is a quote from the link below:

"Sunlight does contribute to the health of koi, because it assists in the conversion of sterols in the skin into vitamins. It is also accepted that sunlight is important to finish koi with a healthy gloss. If you leave koi in the dark, you probably have noticed that it becomes a little paler at night. You may have also noticed, that young koi in an indoor fish tank without a full spectrum of lighting, will change from a reddish orange to a pale orange colour with silver washouts, but it will not turn completely white. Remember that the orange colour in the skin is not a tan, but cells containing pigment."
