Fry pond Empty
PostSubject: Fry pond   Fry pond EmptyMon Nov 08, 2010 4:55 pm

Last year the frogs ate almost all my fry.

I have build a fry pond over the weekend (two to go) and hopefully it will keep the frogs out and keep the mice and moles from drowning daily, polluting the water.

The fry is now 2cm and seems to be very happy with their new home.

19 meters x 4 meters x average 40 cm (20 cm shallow end - 60 cm deep end) = 30 000 liters.

Lets hope for the best.

Top of the liner (500 micron) still to be glued neatly to the sides of the corrugated iron sheets.

Hi Paul

Am I correct in saying the surrounding ground is higher than the pond walls? If so what about the wind blowing and all the muck and sand into the water?

Just asking.

Hi Neville, it appears to be the same level on the photo but in fact it is at least 30cm above ground level and I will be putting roll on lawn around the pond over the weekend. Most of the sand around the pond is from digging the hole.

Ok Paul then it makes sense.

It does look very nice anyway, so you will hopefully have lots of local bread Koi next year.

A friend of mine also lost all his fry to two platties.
