While I am still gloating about my purchases, my pond started with a serious leak- 10 cm overnight. I managed to isolate the waterfall as the culprit, but in the meantime bypassing it. Will start looking for the hole next week.
Any ideas to make it easier?

Secondly- not a major problem- this pipe is leaking.

Is Pratley Putty ok? I'm just worried, as ther is some movement in the papes when I switch the pump on/off and that the Putty will crack/come loose. Unless I redo that whole fitting.

I would say redo it.

What happens if you mygyver it and then you are away again and it fails?

Yes as Dave says re-do it properly.

Its a good time of the year to shut down as everything is dormant or very slow.

You can drain the biofilter so that air gets to it, leave it open for a day or two while cutting and glueing the pipe properly.

Any ideas about the big problem- the waterfall- I suppose remove the plants and start looking. There are some areas that I can fill with cement mixed with Coprox. It is just amazing that I do not see water leaking anywhere.

As daar "beweging" of " geluide" in en van die pype is, nadat jy die pomp afgeskakel het, beteken dit dat daar lug in die pype in kom.
Dit wil vir my voorkom asof daar nog pype is wat lek.

Pieter, dis meestal as ek aanskakel en ek dink die oorsaak is die vertikale pyp, oop onder, wat water uit die sump suig. So ek dink hy kry bietjie lug daar.
As die pomploop, kan mens sien die weir is propvol water.

Ek wil volgende week die waterval bietjie tackle- hy verloor die meeste water as die stroom baie sterk is.

Die dam op sigself lek niks!

Still have one or two issues with regards to all my add ons!

It's easy to redo only that little piece of pipe where the leak is. You only need about 5cm of that PVC piping. PM me if you don't know how to take the old piping off in the connections.

My koi pond has now also decided to start leaking everywhere. I have leaks around most of my ball valves..small little drips. I believe the rubber rings inside the ball valves are not sealing anymore. Any idea where to get spares for them?

Hi Chris, Why don't you share your method, more forum members could learn from your experience.

It's no secret.... It's very easy to do just that connection.

It looks like a union that can be unscrewed from the biofilter which will make it even easier, but if it can't then it's also fine.

1) Cut the connection as indicated on the pic.

2) Your joint will look like the below diagram where the pipe is connected with the fitting.

3) Use the steel blade of a hacksaw to cut the inside pipe through to where it meets the fitting. Do this on 2 or 3 places.

Now use a small flat screwdriver or chisel and wedge it between the 2 pipes. Using a hammer or anything to hit the screwdriver until the 2 pipes start seperating. Don't worry, the inside pipe will come loose and the fitting won't break.

Use a chisel, rough sandpaper, blade or anything you want to clean the inside of the fitting a bit.

YOU'RE NOW READY TO USE PVC WELDING TO CONNECT THE NEW PIECE OF PIPE INTO THE FITTINGS.

I've done this a couple of times and it works.
