I stumbled on to this fish recently in a pond here in KZN. It was bought from a dealer in Durban at size 9-11 cm and bred by Edeni.

When it was bought, it was black. Changed colour at about 30 cm. Photo taken at 37 cm.

You will not get the name of this variety by right-clicking on the photo sorry!!!!

Peter,

This is a Kawarigoi ! ( a strange koi).

If it was black when smaller, it could be a cross between a Kurasu and a Doitsu Ogon.
As it looks like this Koi has no scales it is a Kawagoi (Leather Carp) with Bronze metallic sheen.
A Bronze metallic Matshuba Ogon is called a Kinporai

I would call it a Kin Kawagoi Ogon or a Bronze Kawagoi Ogon................ scratch

Jaco,

Yes very interesting. Although the fish looks almost pre-historic on a photo, it is quite attractive especially in full sunlight.

Pieter J

I will also take a guess:

Variety: Kawarimono......agreed
Kurasugoi somewhere in genes ..........agreed......Kumonryu
Doitsu Ogon somewhere....agreed.....metallic

I am not sure what to call it.
Will guess the first attempts to establish Kin Kikokuryu may have resembled this fish before patterns were established.

Maybe some other thoughts? scratch

Well I think this is just a bronze casting of a Koi. Like in when you bronze your kids shoes.
