Pieter,

I get the armoured scaled on the above fish, but would you not say this could be a Doitsu Yoroi Matsuba???

Cliff,

Doistu Matsuba only have scales next to the dorsal fin, some thing like this:

I had a fish exactly like that and at the time (2007), Hannes Uys, Servaas De Kock and a few other experts identified it as an Doitsu Kin Matsuba Ogon.

See https://koionline.forumotion.com/what-variety-is-this-f3/tiger-t96.htm

The term Yoroi refers to "armoured" doitsu koi and can also be included in the name.

See Mike Harvey's viewpoint in Hotspot 14:

" Scales on other than
the dorsal ridge and lateral line are distracting.
Koi with such scales are called either
"Yoroi (armour)-goi" , "Yoroi Doitsu", or
"Ishigaki-rin" ( stone wall scales). They are
valueless, even if their colours and patterns
are beautiful.
"There are two types of Doitsugoi"
- the leather carp which has no scales and
the mirror carp which usually has large scales
along both sides of the dorsal fin and lateral
line. The latter is the original Doitsu-goi. The
moment that the scales are larger than the
normal wagoi the koi is effectively " doitsugoi"
and if the scales are on areas other than
the dorsal ridge and lateral line then they will
be "Yoroi Doitsu"

Wayne,

Dankie vir jou ondersteuning.............sal dit onthou as ek in die Kaap kom! Very Happy

Ek is mos altyd reg......................dit wat ek op die ander forum gepos het

Quote :
"n Doitsu Koi het gewoonlik net skubbe, bo langs die rugfin alleen of langs die rugfin en op die sylyn of geen skubbe nie.
Die een sonder skubbe word 'n leer carp (Leather carp) genoem.

As daar een of twee skubbe "uitlyn" is trek die ouens dit uit wanneer die Koi klein is, maar met so baie skubbe word sulke Koi uitgegooi (Cull)
