| Hi there all My dam “pond” is about 5 years old. We used hand packed cement with steel reinforcing and fiber glass (as per swimming pool) to construct it. The dimensions are as follows: large part 10 x 10 x 1.7 = 170 The smaller part 17x 2.5 x 1.4 = 59.5 that gives me about 224 meters but dew to the curves I think it is saver to say that there is 200 000 liters of water The settlement chamber takes about 3m of water and the bottom drains (6 x 110) all come out in the chamber with stand up pipes. From there the water is pumped by 3 x 1.1 kW spec pumps in to 3 lines. Line 1 X 1.1KW PUMP / 7 BAG COLEMAN (ZOOLITE) / Ultra zap bio filter / 2 x 55w UV lights out to the dam with 1 x aim flow and 1x venture Line 2 X 1.1KW PUMP / 7 BAG COLEMAN (ZOOLITE) / Ultra zap bio filter / 2 x 55w uv lights out to the dam with 1 x aim flow and 1x venture Line 3 x 1.1 KW PUMP BUT ONLY USED TO DRIVE THE WATERFALL 2m up I am not using line 2 and 3 and line 1 is currently running on a timer (6am – 10 am: 12 – 3 pm: 5pm to 9pm) the UV lights are also currently off and the globes will be changed shortly, electricity has taken its toll on my budget. To add to that we irrigate from the dam and change all the water every 15 days I think my stock levels are low as I have about 35 garden koi and a few goldfish in my pond (I would love to have a few very big koi) In short that is my story As with most koi people my wife knows were to find me most of the time always close to the water Ps they spawned this morning what a mess

Sounds like an impressive setup. Would love to see photos.
If you have problems positing it, you are welcome to send it to me for posting.
I am glad tht I do not have to pay the bill for 3 x 1.1kw pumps. |

| I see you have one of those electric bug zappers above the pond. Always wanted to do that and have now decided to go ahead. Surely the koi gets some nice protein from that.
I love the lillys, but with large koi, they are not going to last very long.
Thanks for posting.

| I am in Vereeniging you are welcome to vissit if you are around. The insect zapper was placed above the pond for that reason. I am currantly looking at upgrading the filtration so that I do not have to run 3 x 1.1 kw pumps Chris has come on board and is helping me plan, Must be honest the guys on this forum just love to share there knowledge and as a new member that is brillaint ps Spelling has never been my best point |

| Hi Johann,
Hoe groot is jou Bio Filters?
Jou uitleg van die dan is baie netjies!!! |

'n 1.1 kw pomp lewer ongeveer 28 000 liter/uur sonder enige weerstand. Die lengte van jou pype, hoogte wat gepomp word, deursnee van die pype en toestand/tipe media/skoonheid van jou sandfilter sal dit egter dramaties beinvloed en dalk halveer. |
