| Background, my home is constructed completely with face bricks and I have a chimney and back wall in my braai area badly cracked. Well a little bit more than a hairline crack above my braai area that allows the rain to enter via the chimney.
I would not like to plaster or paint to resolve the problem and in my view the spray on silicone for brick works will be to thin to fix issue.
The silicone I used to seal my pond window is white and will spoil the face-brick look.
Any one that has experience with a clear waterproof product that will do the job on face bricks? |

| Hi Bobby, The clear liquid silicon you are refering to is called NC 120 by ALCOLIN, excellent product but as you quite correctly mentioned, not suitable for large cracks.
The silicon you used on your window is the answer and you can get it in transparent finish which is the same as what they use for manufacturing all glass fish tanks.
Make sure the area is clean and dry and that the wind is not blowing as the dust or sand will stick to the silicon and the patched area will be very noticable.
Good luck. |

| If the crack runs between the bricks, I'd advise polyfilla. This will also give you more of a cement colour than any silicone. You get polyfilla for indoor or outdoor use.
Personally I won't use silicone to seal cracks in walls.... |

| Paint bonding liquid into the cracks and then mix bonding liquid with PRO GRIP Kilimanjaro Adhesive (Code - EZAD549) tile cement and fill up the cracks. I used it to fix a huge crack in my main pond months ago and still holding.
This cement seems to be heat resistant as well since I have used it for tiling around my BBQ area and some tiles get a lot of heat. No problems so far.
Cement available from CTM and around R80 a bag |

| Hi Thanks you all The cracks are not that big and one will battle to insert something more solid, as I said a little bigger than hairline cracks and rain water depending on directions enters easily. I have epoxy that could work but will spoil the face brick. That why its a tough one, unless I spoil the complete look and plaster the chimney. I do'nt think a photo will show this very well, in most places its only a hairline crack on the brick itself. |
