There is a number of spiders that are making their webs on my koi net that is stretched over the pond. They catch insects attracted by the water. My challenge it looks horrible,, any way i can get rid of them, and poison because of the net touching water and fish close by won't work.....

Tough one..... Take the net off and wash it I guess..... Yes they'll return after a while but it's nature. I won't use any chemicals close to the pond.

I also have the water spiders around my pond. They can also run on the water. Everyday i have cobwebs in every corner of the pond and you dont want to look under the bridge where the down lighters are. ...noticed that dimilin seem to have an effect on them. Add some dimilin in a spray bottle and spray the sides of the pond.

- Dimilin belongs to a modern class of insecticides, the benzoyl ureas, commonly referred to as Insect Growth Regulator (IGR's). They have a mode of action very different to conventional neurotoxic insecticides.
Insect larvae that are controlled by the active ingredient diflubenzuron come predominantly from the families Diptera (flies/mosquitoes) and Lepidoptera (butterflies/moth). Unlike most conventional larvicides that attack the nervous system of a broad spectrum of insects, the active ingredient in Dimilin works on a narrow spectrum of insects to disrupt the normal molting process. Diflubenzuron enters the insect larvae through contact or ingestion and interferes with its ability to form chitin, the material that makes up the exoskeleton. Treated larvae are either unable to escape the old larval skin, or the new, weak cuticle of the new instar is lethally injured and larvae dies before reaching the next growth stage. Its normally used for treating Anchor worm and fish lice on koi. You can get some from Chris Neaves and Paul. |

Just keep withn the dosage. It should not affect the koi that much as you wont be adding it into the water.

Hi Adi, If professor Gerhard Verdoorn could hear you guys now he would definately freak out. You dont kill a spider it is a natural insect controller. Just get one of these feather dusters and roll op their webbs to encourage them to go elsewhere. They belong to the good group in nature.
