Dont know what you paid but this is a nice fish. As I have heard before send HIM? not her, to me and I will dispose of him for you.
This seriously looks male to me.

I have always been a sucker for good 3 steps - like the fish a lot. Is this from Tomahawk bloodline?
Cheers

Stunning fish. I also love the three step Kohaku's

Either needs some serious fattening up or it is a male, although still small to judge the sex from a photo.

The sex was established by inspecting the vent, of cause the inspectors could be wrong, time will tell. Yes some serious fattening up is necessary to get rid of the male look (a project in process).
QJ; I do not know what the bloodline is.
No Ernest; this is not a GaS (grow and show) Koi, bought it on Happy Koi auction for R 2 010.
Considering the present look and size, the price in my opinion is in line with what is available on the market (please correct me if I’m wrong). My decision to buy was based on my amateur-Koi-hobbyist-perception of development potential. If I prove to be right maybe I will be promoted to Koi-keeper.
All my Jap fish (those with the slit eyes) is now housed in my new pond. The Sakai and Marius/Jaco GaS Koi will occupy the older, smaller pond where it is easier to catch them for the mandatory periodical measurements and photos.
This older pond now has some vacancies which I consider to fill with locally bred Koi (BEE you know). Surely we should also be able to breed some reasonable Koi!.
Please forward your suggestions as to whom you consider to be reliable dealers/breeders of locally bred Koi?

Hi Jan, seeing you purchase the Kohaku on auction you must be happy with your offer price so I see no point. Needless to say you made the best offer.Very Happy

Good luck with the female thing.

You can also check for smooth water slide of the leading ray on the pictorial fins and check the gill plate to be smooth no beard.

A year ago I purchased a good quality Dainichi, Sanke and Showa and unfortunately they both turned out to be males. Well I suppose it is in line with the general comment that 80% of our tossai ex Japan will be male. Those Japs knows something long before we do.
