| When I was at the Durban show, quite a lot of small Pearl gin koi was on sale. They were stunning but also much more expensive than the normal ginrin.
I have been advised that they do not keep their beauty. What is your experience? Anybody who owns a pearl gin larger than 30 cm? |

| Hi Cliff
My pearl gin and a Goshiki never performed and stayed small they are both still the same size as were when I bought them a measly 13,0 Cm. I did see that fish from the same batch has doubled and is now in the region of 20 + Cm, Bit disappointing will see what happens now with the warmer weather.

| I bought a pearl ginrin in May at 13 cm. When I last measured Pearl he/she was 23 cm, now in the region of 25 cm and looking better than 7 months ago.
I was advised by the dealer that these are not likely to grow very big so I do not have great aspirations. |

| Hi Jan, I would like to see it if you have a photo. I was so tempted to buy a few but when I heard that the gin may be unstable, I decided not to. I have seen this one on koi-bito and wow, that is stunning. http://www.koi-bito.com/forum/main-forum/5169-pearl-gin-rin-kohaku.html |

| I also read that in the early stages of breading pearl gin it was unstable but it is thought that it has been sorted out now. Buy one with a nice pattern and if it looses the gin you still have a nice fish. |

| Paul I present Pearl; I bought this Koi because of the novelty with no great expectations. I will wait and see. Please give me your opinion. Pearl (13 cm) is on the left, when released from quarantine. The Budo on the right was 18 cm at that stage. I took these pictures through the window this morning. Apologies for the quality but I trust you can make your judgement. The next two pictures feature, amongst others, Pearl and the same Budo - compare the development. |

| Thanks for posting the photos Jan.
The sumi to me is a bit heavy/messy for the age but as they say, pattern is not very important with ginrin. I think it has potential and unique indeed with the pearl gin. Lets hope it starts to grow this summer. The gin looks stable.
Quality of koi looks so much better viewed from the top as you probably found out since you did the new pond with viewing window? Still a very nice feature to have. |
