But Pieter only uses SF's so it might even be both. |

| Well done Pieter. It doesn't matter which one it is,it just show that a sandfilter used correctly is KING |

| lol, i say right - you say left.....this will never work....put your answer in trust with our local lawyer paul. Pieter, my water looks exactly the same. Just last week while i had guests i took a beer mug filled it with crystal clear pond water and downed it infront of the guests. Im so gratefull i have a 2 UV lights...otherwise i might be dead now. Lets get somebody that does not have a sand filter to do the same as pieter, so we can compare. To take this test further we should get the TDS values of the water samples.

| I've always known that my pond water was cleaner than my tap water. When I tested my tap water the nitrite level was a bit high. My pond water is definately cleaner and clearer than tap water. Scary to think that we trust tap water and drink it. |

Hi Adi, well i always new that my pond water was clean and not murky but i did not expect it to significantly clearer than the tap water. I was expecting it to be on par with each other. Its difficult to see from the photo but there is definatly a whitish colour to the tap water. The pond water sparkles. The tap water that i use to fill my pond also runs through a whole filtration kit before the water is being added to the pond. I filter my tap water for solids, heavy metals and chlorine. |

| I can only "assume" the sandfilter people does not get around a lot to see the alternatives or the alternatives they visit does not really do good pond maintenance. Although I personally do not dispute the capabilities of a sandfilter I believe there are alternatives that can do the same job at less running cost. Somewhere on this forum a set-up cost of R17k was mentioned. This is sertanly achievable on a vortex system with crystal clear water, provided maintenance is done. The pond of Drikus and Mark is doing just that and i need to I specify, no ulcers, very healthy show quality Koi.
I do realise we are in SA but the rest of the word cannot all be wrong, I would like to see the comments on this forium 2 or 3 years down the line, once Eskom had their say. How many keepers will then want to close ponds for what they are disagreeing with right now. We need to prepare our keepers to be able to enjoy the hobby for years to come, without effecting the household with the burden of running 1.1kw pumps and turn a blind eye to the alternatives. The alternative does not have to be a Nexus.
Should one not look at the long term value of a purchase price the shock will just come later and the cost of the after effect will be ongoing.
Many pond designs will work but I personally feel that there is only one option for now and that is to plan a gravity fed system, irrespective of pumps and systems, as this will give the keeper options down the line, that a preassure system above ground level will not provide.
Oooom Pieter is in a position to handle what Eskom has to hand out. |
