| Looking at the long thin body, powerfull tail and small fins for adjusting course at speed i would say this is a predator - not sure what it is. Ill have a hard time believing this thing eats algea or grass. |

| Well here it is Well done Lee and CVZ you guys were correct, it is indeed a sturgeon. As far as keeping it with Koi only the Yanks and maybe Pieter SF will be able to, but then also not this one. It seems to be a rather protected fish here is the story. FYI: This Sturgeon is Still alive, just worn out from the fight. They turned him loose after the photo. This Sturgeon was caught on the Willamette River just below Oregon City two weeks ago. It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1'. It was 56' around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in. Any Sturgeon OVER about five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed from the water. They are brood / breeding stock and probably older than most of us. This one maybe 100 years old. I thought it was interesting, Thanks for the replies. |

| Thanks Neville, with a body like that i would really have thought that it would hunt other fish.....but i was wrong. - Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon wrote:
- They are primarily benthic feeders. With their projecting wedgeshaped snout they stir up the soft bottom, and use the barbels to detect shells, crustaceans and small fish, on which they feed. Having no teeth, they are unable to seize prey, though larger specimens can swallow very large prey items, including whole salmon and even baby seals.[6]
