Hi All

what DIY alternatives are there to the commercially available bio media

inert, floating, large surface area ....

what is the DIY alternative ?? the commercial media seeeem horribly like some sort of industrial process off cut that are adapted to our hobby...and then charged out at a rather hefty price tag !!

suggestions please

Hi Neil

I have found that plastic shavings in veggie baggs works very well and are cheap lots of surface area and can be used in the mechanical as well as the bio filter. It has lots of surface area and is easy to clean.
If you call me I will gladly help you with some

I use shredded plastic in the veggie bags, I find it works really well, has lots of surface area, is cheap and very easy to clean. I dont compress it too tight and haven't had any clogging.
