Hi Peter
That must be the fish that you bought from me four years ago. When I bought it, I asked Hannes Uys and Servaas De Kock what variety it is and I did not like their reply.
They said it was a Doitsu Kin Matsuba Ogon.
Despite their reputation in South Africa as experts, I disagreed.
Doitsu means no scales, this fish had scales on the dorsal line and on the body;
Why Matsuba, because "matsuba" means pine cone effect created by the scales which has dark outlines. The body of this fish was mainly leather.
Why Ogon, ogon means one colour.
After four years I know that it is in fact called a Doistu Kin Matsuba Ogon, but I still believe that the name is misleading to the average Koi hobbyist.
Rgds, Paul
