This is open to discussion and each memeber in here would probably treat this problem differently.

I would do the following:
Treat the water as it seems like the bacteria problem has already become too intense and I doubt that salt would do the trick here...

Water treatment as indicated on the below sites:
http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/treatments/potassium%20permanganate.htm
http://www.koiadventures.co.za/Home.aspx?Page=UsrGeneric.ascx&Rec=295

I would also take all surviving koi showing these symptoms (ulcers) and administer anti-biotic injections. I prefer to use Amikacin as it works well. I use the human variant of 250mg/2ml. Will supply my dosage amounts if you need it.

Hi,

Firstly, no diagnoses can be made unless the following was established:
1. Pond volume
2. Amount of fish
3. Filter system
4. The time the pond is running.
5. The mortality rate.
6. Water parameter readings

Looking at the fish in the photo, the following is evident;
1. There is evidence of a possible bacterial infection
2. This plus the presents of ulcers, could be a secondary infection to a parasite outbreak.

I suggest that scraps and swaps to be taken from the Koi, to establish are any parasites are present and if the bacterium’s infection are Gram-positive or Gram-negative.
This information would enable you to apply the appropriate medication.

A shotgun approach could cause more damage!

Hier in PE is dit 'n MOERSE geheim as dit kom by Koi.

Chris,

In 'n opsig is jy tog ook reg. 'n Mikroskoop is 'n moet by enige persoon met 'n Koi versameling.

Ek kry nou my Koi by Phillip Muller in Knysna. Hy is net 'n oorvloed van wysheid as dit kom by Koi en is net soos Roy altyd gewillig om te help en raad te gee.

Om te kom by wat jy gese het. Die beste middels vir my is: Sout, PP, Virkon S, Acriflavin.
