A question for Pieter and others that have done their own building.

Ok, I have a hole next to my pond that i want to build a filter in.

Can someone run me trhough how to do it.
Base, walls, plaster or not. Sealer.

hole +\- 3m long 1m wide 90cm deep.

water will flow in from settlement, and i want to add inserts to make it into three chambers.

Thanks Guys

Ok, i cleaned out the hole this AM.
its 1m wide 2m long and 90cm deep.

I am going to throw a cement base at the bottom and then build up the sides with brick, i have a whole stack lying around in the garden.

How would you guys suggest that i waterproof it?

Thanks

Some pics. 1 & 2 the hole, 3 my home made filter box that was in it. Problem is it floats everytim water gets under it and it then disrupts the veggie filter over flow, blue pipe, and the return pump from this box to the biofilter is also disrupted.

I would just plaster it with some plasterkey in the plaster and then paint with Coprox. Put on the 1st layer Coprox before the plaster are to dry and then give it a second coat just as the 1st coat becomes touch dry.

Agree plaster and Corprox, if you want to you can also already add the water proofing to your plaster cement and then paint the Corpox over.
One word of advise.......learnt teh hard way, where pipes enter and leave the filter, is where i had all my leaks....
Took out all cement there, and sealed that area with Rock grip, its a fast anchoring cement. Then painted Corpox waterproofing mixed with Corprox crack filler over. Because like a sludge.....that u can spread over

David,

Kort en kragtig:
1. Gooi 'n sement blad 200mm dik
2. Bou dubbel ry stene muur
3. Seel met Marble-lite

PostSubject: Sealant   Advice Required Please EmptyWed Nov 18, 2009 3:05 am

Hi David

I have used a product from Chemcrete called Matcrete to seal my leaking pond about two years ago and it will out live me. In the Transkei they buildt a massive sewer dam 12 years ago without using concrete or bricks. all they used was a membrane and Matcrete. One of my ponds walls was wet due to another pond being on the other side and I painted three coats of matcrete and it seal beautifully. Check Chemcretes website.

Regards

Roy

Roy,

Sorry to say, but I had a nasty experience with Chemcrete. I will never use it again!
