Dear Sas
An 11 cm good quality kohaku/Sanke from a known breeder in Japan goes for approximately R 400.00 at a dealership, but the reputation of the breeder in Japan and the reputation of the dealer plays a big role. A private individual will not get that amount and the hobbyist who goes for Japanese fish(at the much higher price) will only buy from reputable dealers. So it all depends on who is selling the fish and do the breeder in Japan has a good reputation. As you know, bloodlines are very important, especially with a small fish like this where you do not know how it is going to turn out. If you buy from for instance a well known breeder, you know that the bloodline will be good and you can normally rest assure that there will be no KHV problems. The further question would be, have the fish, or at least the batch that came into the country been tested properly for KHV in South Africa. This influence the price. So, if you as individual sell this fish for instance, you will probably only get approximately R 150.00.
