pond - Martin's Pond Empty
PostSubject: Martin's Pond   pond - Martin's Pond EmptyWed Oct 28, 2009 12:05 pm

Hi all

I've been lurking here for ages now and thought it was time to make a contribution to the site. Here are pics of my pond.

Approx 8000 litres, sandfilter, UV and Biofilter and 9 fish in the pond.

I love this hobby but its been a bit of a pain because I paid landscaper who knows #^#%# about building a koi pond to construct it - so I've had a few problems with the filtration and with leaks. At the moment the pond is all green because my UV filter has perished and needs to be replaced.

Im learning a lot though as I go, important I think because I have a longer term goal to build a gargantuan 80 000-100 000 litre pond when I move to a bigger place.

Thanks for a great site.

What a nice pond and collection of koi.
By changing more water every week you can give the koi the illusion that the pond is bigger than it actually is because of the fresh water.

Hi Ogidni, stunning Pond, stunning finishes on your pond, stunning Shiro. Do you mind telling me which province you are staying?
I will need to clad my new build soon and would like to know more about your cladding, name and supplier. It looks similar to the cladding on my first pond just bigger pieces. You can also PM me the info should you prefer to keep it private.

My first pond is 10 000ltrs and the joke to all my so-called Koi friends due to size and were named Bobby's settlement chamber. Jaco has given you sound advise I achieved very good growth in my small pond by trying to do the basics right.

Thanks for the replies

I'm in Johannesburg Bobby- the cladding is from a company called Colonial Stone - http://www.colonialstone.co.za/

Ask for Brett he's a good friend of mine and will be able to help you out. They have a great range of products. PM me if you need his direct line.

Thanks for the advice Jaco - I do a water change twice a week and their growth is amazing. I'd love a bigger pond I had just had space constraints - I'm really envious of some of these big ponds I see on the site. Well at least its a great motivation to work towards to.

The Shiro is my favourite as well - I bought her from Lee-ann just over a year ago.

Martin

Any photos of the filter system?
