Pedrollo Pumps Empty
PostSubject: Pedrollo Pumps   Pedrollo Pumps EmptyThu Oct 22, 2009 1:09 pm

I am considering replacing my existing pool pump with a Pedrollo .45 which will reduce my electricity bill. I see the pump does not have leaf trap, so how do I install an inline leaf trap. Anybody had this problem?

Remember they are expensive, not self priming, and you can get a .45 speck or equivalent for a hell of a lot less.

Hi Daan,

I run a speck .45 on my 11 400 litre pond and I have had zero issue's from the Mrs flower about the electricity usage.
I have ample water flow through 2 venturi's, a bamboo fountain and a jet stream.

The pump sells for R941.00 + VAT. Go to the following link http://www.happykoi.co.za/latest/pedrollo_pumps.htm. According to William at Happy Koi the monthly running costs of a 0.75 pool pump is R900.00. This pump will reduce this substantially.

Daan

The only Pedrollo pump I can find on that site is the Pedrollo HFM 50b 18kL/h at 370W. The price is R3195

That is Happy Koi's price, the R941.00 is from Pedrollo themselves.

I contacted Pedrollo themselves. They are in Natal.

They quoted me R2.2k for a .37 pump.

I'm sorry but I don't see how you are going to get it for R900.

Sorry I made a mistake, R1941.00 + VAT. It might be slightly more expensive than eg Speck Porpoise but in the long run the electricity saving is a lot more.

Pedrollo Pumps Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pedrollo Pumps   Pedrollo Pumps EmptySun Oct 25, 2009 9:55 pm

Just remember that the pump does not do any pressure. So no sandfilters etc. I've got a .75kw pedrollo that delivers 46 000 litres per hour. The running cost on this pump is R530 per month:

.75kw x 24hours x 30days x units cost (VAT incl) 98c = R530 per month.

These pumps are high flow low pressure pumps. They are fine with around 1m head but not too many elbow etc..

Ernst is making a very valid point. It all depends on what you want to use it for.

A .75 Speck pump will consume the same amount of power as a .75 pedrello. As a matter of fact, my .75 wellpoint pedrello pump uses more in the region of .80 kw.

If you want a high flow rate, you should go for the pedrello, but if you have a waterfall which requires a head, or want to incorporate a sand filter, the speck pump will be a better option.

If you purely want a high flow rate and do not have a sand filter, then you can just as well go for the cheaper in price and cheaper to run submersible pumps. With 200 watts, you can easliy get up to 17 000 liters per hour.

What about using the pedrollo with bead filters ,will it cause a problem as i have noticed there is easier flow through bead fiters than sand filters.I have currently 2 bead fiters with my 3 vortexes on my system with .75 speck. The picture on e bay of the 120 air pump is different to the 120 air pump on king koi site .
thanks

I inquired about bead filters and I was told that you do not need a pressure pump for bead filters, a small Waterfall pump 12000 or 15000lts 200 to 250w is sufficient to push through a bead filter. (A waterfall pump needs to be installed below water level)

Guys, another thing to look at are the sequence pumps.

The pedrollo's and the sequences might be a little more in the initial outlay, but they are really good pumps and their efficiency is really top notch, but then there is nothing wrong with the speck pumps either.

Do you perhaps know how must water flow per hour will I loose on a Pedrollo with a 1.2m head height? I am planning to replace my 2 x 750W motors with a single motor that is capable to produce around 40kL/h. My filter is above ground level but the pump is only 2meters away from filter. I can get away with very few bends and I do not use a high pressure system.
