Yes, I understand that stuff is very expensive but since I am almost never home mine gets food only 1s a day (sometimes twice). I use Hikari food and on weekend they get a mix of clay/powder vitamins/garlic. My son in Kempton is breeding silk worms and crickets for his dragons, so maybe I will get a few a Xmas present.

I will add about 4 of the Koi to my pond. 2 will remain in QT and the other 2 in main pond. Will feed all the fish the same food but I am looking forward to see the difference in growth between the 2 ponds.

They will only be available end of season, around end of April.
Should be around 20 -25cm then.

I just sold my chagoi 2 mins ago.......getting ready for when these are available.

I bought mine in August at 17cm's and just sold him at 28cm's, now I just need to be strong because everytime I visit a blerry koi shop I end up buying more fish and with these 2 chagoi's to come I will then have 10 fish in my 8000lt dam, luckily the biggest now is just touching on 20cm's so not worried about overstocking.

Have you got any gin chagoi's in your batch Jaco??

I was thinking, and this is just a question, you say the fish will be ready end of april or thereabout.....now thats almost into winter, would it not be better to transport and have the chagoi introduced to a new pond earlier, say in february and then at least by the time winter comes they're established in their new ponds and their systems won't be at more risk due to the transportation and the fact that it's colder????

Just a question\suggestion

Drikus, ek kan altyd 4 Koi ipv 2 vir jou stuur inruil vir 'n paar Kreef. Laughing
Die kreef sal slegs aangewend word vir Koi kos lol!

Well now here is going to be somthing interesting I am busy with a 8000l porta pool that i am going to make a full anoxia system will put one in my 8000l sand filter pond and one in my anoxia system both ponds will have 10 koi in all same size so I will beable to see if a 16 month old sand filter system is better than a new anoxia system

Hi Christie

Ja daar sal nog oor wees. 2 vir elke deelnemer. Sal weer deur posts moet gaan en seker maak wie almal wil he, maar mens kan altyd plan maak as meer mense deelneem.

Shawn,
I think it is a great idea. I am obviously not taking part but will run my own little secret station at home. Same food, same filter, +_ same water temp but different pond size per fish. Hopefully the stocking density will be equal in both ponds.

I'm planning my 12000lt pond extension for around April, going to expand my pond to 20000lts overall. Want to make sure I have a good size pond for this and I guess for future large koi.

Hell......maybe if I just skip to renovation and pay for the trip to zanzibar myself i'll save some cash....lol

hows this coming along??

Was thinking...again......would it not be better to do this with ochiba's. Reason is that chagoi's all look the same where ochiba's are different and can be identified.

Just thinking that if the competition is all chagoi's then how will we know for sure that it's the same chagoi though out, I know that people must be honest and I'm not saying we're dishonest........just rather not leave it down to that.

just a thought!!!

Hi Cliff

Yes, that is am interesting point you have. Maybe Jaco can comment on it since I have to get Koi from him. Must contact him later this week because I will be home soon and it will be the best time to collect the Koi and send it off to the people while I am in SA. My leave is witin the next day or two but trying to come home at end of month so that I attend the Bloem show early April

Remember, because I've been quiet on the forum and managed to cull/kill thousands of Jaco's koi babies, I'm still in for the competition.

Let me know how/when/ etc we are going to start. Personally, I would not go for the chagoi's- I have one and I think they look dull, perhaps the ochibas would be a better choice.

I still manage to buy poorer quality fish- between the dealers, myself and my wife, it usually is not a good combination!! Seriously overstocked by now and still need good, not show quality, fish.

If someone with a good judgment eye pass my house in Van Riebeeckpark, Kempton Park (Scorpio street 27), please call me, 0832348432 or avz10@mweb.co.za to help me to throw out some more inferior fish.

But, just remember, I'm just a hobbyist and not in it for show purposes.

Albie

I am sorry to say it did not work out as I planned, Chagoi was very poor with very few clean ones.
Hopefully next year I am trying Showa and we will see what happens.
Sorry guys.
