PostSubject: Protien Skimmer   Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:28 pm

Hi there guys this is my first post and am new to the hole Koi thing , I have been having problems with foum on the surface of my pond and called a few people for advice well turns out it was to much protien in my pond so i started looking for a protien skimmer with almost no luck i went on the net and started looking at how it works and what it should do so off i went to the hard wear and made my own contraption which cost me just over 50 rand and in just one night my problem was solved here are some pics of my skimmer and the results in the bucket.

should i try make it a permanant ficture to the pond or only have it on when the problem comes around again. as it just clips on and off the inlet ,,,cool hey.

sorry about the spelling but i am deslecsick so have a laugh
how do i put a picture in this post[img]

were the inlet comes into the pond just after the defuser that is were it conects to, i took a 100mm pipe 1m long at 500mm i cut a 50mm hole in the side of the 100mm pipe were i put on a 50mm conection in wich the deuser fits 100%, I then put a cap on the top to which i put the overflow pipe as in pick.

so what happens the water coming from the filter goes through the defuser which is sucking air for the airration of the pond that is the all traped in the 100mm pipe as the bottom of the pipe is open the waterflow goes into the pond but traps all the foam (protien) in the 100mm tube and as it builds up it gets pushed out the top overflow tube.

hope that helps have a great day.

thanks for sharing,

that is an awesome concept, simpliest i have seen, and it works great aswell.

adding an airstone in there would increase the foaming.

awesomw thanks

Hi Shawn

I am impressed. One should maybe just try to hide the piping effectively, especially with such a nice pond and house as yours.

Would like to see some photo's of your pond (and fish) on the forum, now that you have also mastered posting photo's. You have a very nice pond and koi that you can really be proud off.

I need to take some pics of mine protein\leaf skimmer that I made for my pond last week......also works unbelievably well and I have it connected to my bottom drain outlet to my pump. Want to actually take a video so one can see how effective it really is.

Will take and post some pics as well
