| Well those that know me, I tend to err on the side of "more is better" so I installed a bead-filter about a month ago running on a low wattage waterfall pump as a polishing filter. Well it is adding a shine to my water but when I purge the filter it does not seem to produce much dirt. The bead is sharing water ex 110mm bottom drain pipe with my one Easy Pod filter, therefore increasing water flow ex bottom drain, by using x 2 small low wattage pumps. I will now experiment to leave the bead for longer than a weak before cleaning and installed a pressure valve. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Kry mens verskillende groote beads?

Any hobbyist in Cape Town will be a fool to predict until the man himself, Ernst has benched. Funny one Bobby! let's hope I find the venue in time to bench! You should not under rate your koi so easily - or direct the pressure to me You've built up a stunning collection in a short span of time and you will be a serious contender for the big awards this year...no pressure!! |

Die beads is do 3mm in deursnee. Ultrazap se fabriek is so 7 Km van my huis af, en die ouens daar was baie hulpvaardig.

| Hi Reggie and Jim Phillips I really enjoyed the June Koisa about the build up of muim that blocks the uptake of oxygen, forms the Hydrogen sulfhide poisonous gas that is harmfull to koi and can even kill them.
Since the articke I made a point to dump a couiple op liters via the Nexus waste pipe every morning and night and the intensity of the mell is much less and also not as wild when one does the sheduled maintenace of filters.
I do not have to interup or stop any fitration, the waste valve is opened and the smell of wrotten eggs or stinkbombs get purched.
I have done this before but not regulary, once in the morning and once at night seems to be very effective
You also make a very valid point re the pipes that are empty and not in use, this becomes oxygen depleted and allowing anaerobic bacteria to thrive and a playground for ulcers to develop |

| Hi Bobby,
Yes it just comes back to old story, you must clean your filters regularly,
finish en klaar. Every pond has it's own routine. |

| PG 18000 pump installations, both with 63mm suction lines and 50mm delivery pipes, one on my Nexus 300 laying flat returning to the pond and the other in die upright position pumping via a Bead Filter. These pumps are installed after a gravity fed filtration system and returns filtered water to pond, have to be installed below water level. They can also be used as a submersible. Personally I do not want anything in the pond that Koi can flash against. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]This one runs via Bead Filter to a mid water pond return. | Hi Bobby,
Yes it looks good but is difficult to asses until one stands there and can follow the lines through, Something I would like to do one day. Was hoping to come down for your show but changed my mind in view of all the negatives. But if I may I will gladly visit your setup as well when I do come down to see you guys. Maybe a better idea as the show responsibility's will be off your hands.
I am very keen to see and meet the forum guy,s under positive circumstances. But yes I agree that a 63mm suction is the minimum for a reasonable pump to perform.

| Systems are designed with different objectives and boy did I get a lot of help and guidance from a many hobbyist. Once you have decided to use a specific filtration plan, you have to work within those parameters. Therefore the needs, expectations and budget should be well researched to comply with your vision. The space that you have available will also play a major role in the decision to go for a particular system. I wish I had more grey matter to research the airlift system as this sound like a very nice option, then one reads about the flow trough pond system and new pond designs. There will always be other options to explore and hobbyist to differ especially if it is in our nature to remain old school and do not embrace new technology.
Neville, nothing should stop you or anyone else for that matter to visit the Cape Show. Think back to your experience at the JNB show with the hobbyist from Cape Town and the period before the show. By August this is all gone and dusted. Our passion gets in the way of our better judgment and is confused with a passion to always be right. I don't know why we call a hobby a hobby as this normally becomes a vehicle for backstabbing, mistrust and finger pointing, irrespective of a goal to walk the straight and narrow. Competition and money always brings the best out in people, so as we are not going to change the concept, lets be positive and I am sure the WCKC hobbyist would like to meet the famous Neville at our Show.
