PostSubject: East London Koi Show 2009   Thu Aug 13, 2009 10:17 pm

Hi All

Lee-Ann and I had the honour of supporting our clients down at the East London Koi Show, which was held this passed weekend.

Amalinda Fish Farm is one of our biggest wholesale clients in South Africa. Lee-Ann consult them on a monthly basis so naturally she also helped out on their stand at the show.

The best quality koi was on sale at Amalindas stand, I wonder why.

I assisted one of our best clients and best friends Danie and Ronel Bekker to get their koi benched and settled in for the show. It turned out to be the pond of champions.

The Judges

And their decisions where:

Supreme Grand Champion
Kohaku
Owned by Danie and Ronel Bekker
Supplied by Orient Koi Farm

Reserve Grand Champion
Sanke
Owned by Danie and Ronel Bekker
Supplied by Orient Koi Farm

Jumbo Grand Champion
Chagoi
Owned by Emil of Port Alfred
Supplied by Karni Koi Farm

Mature Grand Champion
Shiro Utsuri
Owned by Wild Coast Koi Farm
Supplied by Johan Jacobs

Junior Grand Champion & Supreme size 4
Gin Rin Sanke
Owned by Danie and Ronel Bekker
Supplied by Orient Koi Farm

Sorry I missed baby grand champion.

Best in special variety
Shusui
Owned by Danie and Ronel Bekker
Supplied by Louis Kruger

Congratulations to all prize winners-

Danie and Ronel Bekker

Dave Churches of Amalinda Fish Farm with 6 X 1st , 4 X 2nd and 5 X 3rd places.

All the kids that entered their koi into the show and won prizes.

Last but not least I would like to Congratulate Roy Button and his team on an excellent koi show. The one thing that every other chapter can learn from Roy and his team is marketing of a show. I had to go and buy filters for my camera and had to go to a shopping centre 10 km away from the show, once there a beautiful lady gave me a pamphlet that advertised the koi show.

Roy Button

Just before you go, one last look at a pond full of Champions Supplied mostly by Orient Koi Farm.

Koi Regards

Collin

Some great looking Koi Collin.

I still know very little about this great hobby and even less about Koi shows but I am glad to see youngsters involved. I think it is important to promote it amongst kids as well. As a second hobby I am a Radio Amateur but this hobby is going down hill and the kids of today are more interested in the internet and new technology than to build radios, antennas and the like.

Does some clubs have programs in place to get more people involved to start up ponds?

Yes SAKKS have some program, but I don't think it is working very successful according to me they lose more members every year, the new members don't even cover their losses per year.

Greetings to all

It is good to be welcomed to Koi Online Koi Forum and thanks for having me.
I was supprised to see the nice report and picures of our East London show and thanks to Collin. I must say that this was our second show and the quality of the koi Eastern Cape koi have increased by hundred fold. Looking at the Kohaku grand supreme champion I dont think there is going to be compitetion for it for a long but who knows.
Special greetings to old friends Chris, Jaco and Pieter.

Regards

Roy Butterton
