PostSubject: Showa Growout   Sat Apr 25, 2009 12:31 pm

Since this board has been so busy this last few days....

I bought this showa at the end of August at our show for the grow and show competition. No idea how old it was. Paid R950 for it. Breeder is Sekiguchi.
It was 14cm when bought. By mid January it was 37cm. By April it was touching 50cm.

It's a hi showa but it appears to have enough shiro to give it some nice balance and there is a slim possibility that it might even become a two step. The hi is even and very deep and strong. Some might think it's too 'finished' by after seeing what the breeders in Japan keep as grow on tategoi I've changed my mind on the 'finished' beni look. It appears to be female and is growing in length at this stage. Sumi that is up is very good but how it develops remains a closed book for now. Pics are from January

What do you think about this one?

Ongelooflike groei.

You should have bought some land in Paarl for a farm...our water temp is really optimal for growing koi! cheers

BUT I think genetics plays a big part as does food and filtration. The ave size of a 18month old koi sold in SA is around 35 - 45cm. I bought this sanke at 58cm when she was 18months old in Nov 07. At the show in August she was 68 cm and now, note even 3 years old she is pushing 74cm. She improved so much that it's unreal. She has a slight kink at the moment due to one ovary being more active than the other so hopefully when I spawn her in spring it will get better.

Very Happy

Hier is dieselfde showa in 2007.
