Fish other than Koi Empty
PostSubject: Fish other than Koi   Fish other than Koi EmptyWed Oct 08, 2008 6:14 pm

I am relatively close to completing my pond and am now starting to think of what I will stock it with to start with. I am hesitant to put Koi in straight away as I have never kept koi before, and I would prefer to get the pond all sorted out before going this route (inevitably there will be a cople of problems once the water is in, pumps are running and filters on).

Any suggestions as to what I can put in as "starter" fish ?

Well first I suggest you run that pond at least 3 weeks before you put any fish in ... at least see some algae growth on the walls.

I decided to grow with my fish so I bought small koi ... around 8 - 10 cm. Main reason for this is that they were relatively cheap and if there were any losses it was no train smash.

Hi Gazzo, where do you live? If in the Cape Town area, you can collect a few koi from me (free) to get your filtration going and "test the waters"

Why bother with any other fish? Koi are the ultimate.
