Cracks in koi pond wall Empty
PostSubject: Cracks in koi pond wall   Cracks in koi pond wall EmptyThu Feb 12, 2009 3:06 pm

A supposed civil engineer built my circular koi pond which contains approx 20,000 litres. At the base of the wall, a crack has appeared abour 200cms from the bottom and all the way around! It appears to be the plaster that has cracked. What should I use to plaster the wall!??

many thanx in anticipation

Hi Rick

I had a crack in my pond as well since I tried to play builder myself. Had to chip away the crack and then I painted bonding liquid over the damaged part. Took tile cement and mixed it with bonding liquid instead of water.
When I plastered the pond I used normal plaster but mixed salt with it. I also painted the pond with 'damseal'. This also keeps the cement away from the pond water since cement tends to make you pH to high.

Crack seems to be fine now.

Regards
Marius

If it is a crack that follows the same height right around the pool it might not be a mere plaster crack ... it is rare for plaster to crack symmetric like that ... actually highly unlikely. This could be a failure of the structure.

If the pond was first built with bricks and then plastered this could mean that one specific layer joint has failed. If this is the case then fixing the crack in the plaster will not last.
