scratch Does anybody know of koi dealers near Centurion Question I am not looking to breed with my koi but also want to enjoy them in my garden What a Face No I have been to a few pet shops and it is scary to see under what conditions they keep their fish Crying or Very sad I called the SPCA and gave all their names and locations to them Twisted Evil

I am looking for koi that will wow you with their beauty flower but I do not want to take out a loan to buy them. Seeing that I will only be buying 8 koi I would like to get a nice assortment of colours scratch

Your best bet is to approach Collin who is also a member of this forum and also chairman of the South African Koi Trader Association and conducts business as Orient Koi farm near Cullinan, not very far from you.

They have a large variety of good quality koi.

Stay away from any Pet Shop Koi.

Orca007,
Do you really think that the SPAC will investigate your complaint as Koi (Carp) is classified under the bio diversity Act (10 of 2004) as an Alien and Invasive Species?

I also reported a Koi dealer in the cape to the SPCA 3 years ago...No Action was taken. You see its not a cuddly animal. Fish are viewed as a food source not as pets. And lets say the SPCA acts, where are they going to put the fish that they conviscate? Koi ponds are expensive and they cant put them in a natural lake or anything, thats agains the law.

3 years ago : I indicated to a dealer that the one koi looked a bit sick, the dealer called one of his employees to take care of it. The employee was cleaning the filters at that point. (Atleast they have filters) While i was standing there the poor fish was taken out f the water and thrown onto the concrete floor next to the pond and left for dead....when i complained the dealer said that they can't treat all the sick fish as that is to expensive and they do not have the facilities to do that in any case, he will through the fish away when he is done cleaning the filters. The conditions havn't changed since, this dealer also deals in gold fish varieties but strange enough they always sick...

Intresting enough this dealer was the sponsor at the 2007 SAKKS western cape show. When asked to be the sponsor this dealer himself said that he was suprised to be asked to sponsor such a event as most SAKKS members don't do bussiness with him. I wonder why?

Why am I not surprised?

By using this Dealer, SAKKS indirect endorse such a Dealer by adding him to their advertising campaign for the Koi Show itself!

I have said in the past that SAKKS failed to promote Koi in South Africa, but it is all about money and the prestige of some of the Committee members.

It is time that real Koi people start to run the Society once again!
Politics and Koi donít go together!

Hi Orca 007,

I am re-building my collection this spring.

I will be giving away and selling koi between 25 and 50cm. The ones I will be selling are a few hundred rand each.

If you are interested send me a private email on this site with your contact details - email or number.

Only one precondition - koi keepers must have a reasonable pond to keep the koi.

I am in Ferndale , Randburg

Regards,
Chris

Chris, nice gesture to a new hobbyist. Orca (also Chris) has just build his first pond and will need a bit of advice and indicated that he will pop in at your place for his first fish.

All first time hobbyists in the Cape Town area are welcome to collect a few "first fish" from me for free (15 - 25 cm) to get started and to learn and to get their pond mature before spending megga bugs on Koi and loose some. No obligation.
