| Hi everyone. My koi spawned about 2 weeks ago, got lots of fry.. a lot of black ones and a whole lot of white ones.. they're all stilll tiny at the moment. When do i start culling and which ones do i keep? This is the fish that spawned... The female...  and this is the male  What can i expect? |

| Hi Muhammad I would keep all the black ones and cull the rest as soon as possible.  |

| Hi Muhammad Our fry doing good so far but its still a long time to go and anything can still happen, I'm taking it day by day, but at this stage still lots of babies and first selection will start soon. I guess that you might see a few Beni Kumonryu, Kumonryu and so on and so on  |

| Did you collect the eggs and put them in a separate grow out tank? I usually wait til they are 8 weeks olds to decide. Especially since you have two different varieties that spawn, if you have the room to grow them out.

| It was a bit of a mess up, first timer with reguards to spawning but we learn from our mistakes. I put the two in a 7000lt porta pool which i set up next to my main pond, with plenty spawning nets inside. I used a small return pump to pump water from the main pond into the porta pool, and let the over flow run back into the main pond. I wasn't home when they were at it and when i got home both ponds needed a serious water change. Thereafter i removed the pump and just used a compressor with air stones in the porta pool. The problem i faced there was tons of unfertilized eggs all over the floor of the pool that was going bad. After lots of water changes and scraping off fungified eggs i finally got it to an exceptable standard.Its been about 3 weeks now, the fry seem to be growing, the only thing is I now have lots of stringy algea all over the pool... not sure i should be concerned? |

My Pond is the master of string algae. I just take out as much as I can and make sure it isn't going to clog any pumps or drains.
But it not a problem for the fish.
So how are they doing?
