PostSubject: Protein Skimmers Foam Fractionators   Mon May 12, 2008 11:27 am

I have a protein skimmer as part of my pump setup. The pump on the protein skimmer runs on a timer that switches on automatically every morning at 6am and runs to 9am.

I have been running it now for about 3-4 weeks and it has worked well but this morning i came outside to find that the foam from the protein skimmer pushed the lid of from the skimmer and there was foam everywhere:shock:...over my electrical DB Box, down the sides of the skimmer, over the UV lights and over the pump of the skimmer....everywhere. I assume it has something todo with the fact that i did a Potassium Permanganate treatment the day before.

So obviously it worked...but is the lid suppose to come off and create such a mess?

On the Ultrazap website they have some photos of their P Skimmers and they basically show the same thing. Now this is not what i expected otherwise i would have placed the P Skimmer somewhere on its own away from the electricals.

So now i have three questions:

1. Is the P Skimmer suppose to let the foam overflow?
2. There is almost no fluid coming down the waste line although there is lots of foam...is this correct?
3. How does one get the foam to turn liquid and run down the waste line?

Thanks

Wayne
