Morning Ace,

You will have to give some more detail please, Pump size, type of algae and the delivery volume. Also no and size of fish and type and amount of food per day.

I can only guess at this stage, I think your UV light globe needs replacement, and your Sand filter probably needs to be serviced by unpacking it for a change.
This type of problem normally stems from insufficient flow rate. The smaller your pond the higher the turnover rate should be.

When I look at the photo I see a lot of 90 degree bends and it does not make me happy.

Hi Neville

Thanks for the reply . the Submercible pump is on 24/7 connected to the UV light . i replaced the UV light last week
the sand filter and pump i only use it once a week to do a back wash and to circulate the water for +- 2 Hours

The small pump pushes 2000 l/H - then 8 Watt UV then back to pond

there are ( 3 x 25-30cm) & ( 8 x 16-20cm ) & small ( 5 X 15cm) Koi`s

My name is Allan Wink.

Ace,

If what you and Frans say is correct, then the flow rate is ok, for the pond size. Just hope it is a measured rate and not what it is supposed to be.

2000Lt per hr, but that does not go through the sand filter, only through the UV, correct?. What is the size of the sand filter?

The sand filter must be in use all the time you cannot use a sand filter now and again.

As Frans is saying you do not mention any bio filtration.

You must definitely open that sand filter and clean it properly, I think your problem is right there.

Hi Allen

If you use a sandfilter, you have to run it 24/7 as Neville said or else you are going to run into serious trouble. While it is off, all those bad bacteria multiplies and when you run it only once a week, it will enter your pond with very negative effects, even if you backwash it everytime before you put it on filtration.

Thanks for all the replies

The sand filter is a small one think it holds about 2 bags sand .
the black pipe is to suck the water from the pond then to uv then it goes up to the channel and back again . i went to get Hair curles to make the three channel into a bio filter .
ok i do smell a bad smell when i put on the Sandfilter and do the back wash . will need to let it run then

The sand filter is big enough for your pond no problem the setup is just wrong. I will suggest that you start from the beginning as mention clean the sand filter first then you take the suction from the pond through the sand filter first then through your bio filter and then the last in line is the uv light

Hello Allen, your filtration method is a timebom ...... recipe for a disater Embarassed

You will have to sort the flow as per feedback given and run the pump 24/7

You have been given sound advice Idea good luck with the re-design of filtration

Hi Allen

Yes you can take the submersible out ( I would use that to do flooming instead of the air stone).

I don't know what size or volume the big pump will do, we just have to make sure the UV can handle the flow, their flow rates are not very high. If you let me know I will check it for you.

I had two sand filters on the pond . the second sand filter Head cover started to leak so i disconected it , the pump i used on that one was a another Sub-Pump that does 5600 l/h. and ran 24/7 . mabe i should get that sorted out also and put in the Bio Filter

i Allen

The UV is big enough for your pond size but the flow rate of a ,75 pump will be too high.

That other submersible of yours will be fine to use on the system, as a 24/7 pump. But then you would have to use the ,75 to do your back washing, as the submersible is rated at 5600Lt/hr then it should deliver I guess around 3500 through your system, which should be fine.

Hi everyone

I must say my pond's water is almost 100% clear . I can see the bottom. What I did was replaced the sand in the filter with koi sand 5mm. Made my bio filter in the top of water spout, got my uv and 1300l pump running 24/7 I have the pool pump on a timer that kick's in for 2 hours a day and I do a back wash every 3rd day Very Happy . I will upload some photos as soon as possible What a Face

Sorry Ace, Runing any Koi pump on a timer is a recipe for desaster in the long term. All koi pumps in operation should run 24/7

Hi Allen

Bobby I think he will be ok if that submersible is delivering via the sand filter, if not well then for sure you will have a problem

You definitely cannot stop and start a filter system Allen. Slow flow then high flow ok.
