Newby and my big filter Empty
PostSubject: Newby and my big filter   Newby and my big filter EmptySun Sep 12, 2010 6:40 pm

Hello everyone

I have just moved into a house with a empty koi pond and a 750kw pump for a 5mx1mx0.5m pond ( 25 000 litres? ).
This seems in excess and I wanted to know if could run the pump less to save on the electrical bill without damaging the fish and their water?

Would appreciate some advise on this?

Thanks
Toby

Hi Toby

It really depends a lot on the no of fish and your filter system, But I can promise you a ,75Kw is maybe on the smaller side for 25000Lt already.

Tel us more about your no and size of fish and your filtration please.

Toby

Looking at the dimensions of the pond, I am sure you mean 2500 l ?

Well spotted Pieter I never even looked at that.

Maybe, if what Pieter has observed is correct replace the koi with goldfish and a small submersible? Then you can also plant some water plants. Turn it into a nice feature

Ok, 3 is cool...

Now, hmm.. what do I start with in terms on choosing the fish? Do I get 3 small babies? What should I be looking for?

However... isn't 0.5m a little bit shallow for a koi pond? I would consider deepening it first to at least a metre.

Cheers, Mark

I agree with Mark spend the extra money and make it deeper and wider if you can while the water is out, I have a 10 000l pond and it is to small and trust me if the bug bites you stuffed but if you go for 3 koi ill say kohaku showa sanke with out a doubt

have fun you going to love it were do you live.
