Bump on head Empty
PostSubject: Bump on head   Bump on head EmptyWed May 26, 2010 1:49 pm

I moved one of my koi from the pond to the qt to be a QT buddy 2 weeks ago, and noticed in the process a chunk of skin loose on his head. I must have bumped him in netting, I don't know how because i was careful.

Anyway I increased the salt a bit in the QT and the loose piece of skin dissapeared after a few days and his head healed nicely.

Then about 2 days ago I noticed the eye on that side is starting to stick out.
This morning I see the other eye is starting to stick out a little as well.
He is very active and eats well and shows no sign of anything else.

Now I am worried about the other fish in QT. Is this anything to worry about? I'm going to increase the salt to about .5%.
What else can I do?

Hello Stumble
You should really post a picture, but I have found that this happens when they are a bit stressed especially with Sakai bred Koi. I have seen this on some of my other Koi as well, it seems to effect bigger Koi first.
I have seen Koi going into a show pond being fine and by Sunday due different water conditions the eyes start to pop a bit, they do recover over time.

Thanks Bobby.
Its an Asagi. He is fine now.
The one eye is back to normal, and the other one (on the side of the bump) is sticking out a little, not much and it doesnt seem to bother him, he is active and eating well. Very Happy
