Does anyone know how many litres this pump would pump an hour?
What is the preferred turnover rate? (once an hour?)

The Speck 1.1 porpoise does about 28 000liters per hour try to get a Speck Hydrostar 1.1 that gives you about 10 000liters extra for the same amount of power.

But are you sure you want to go for such a big pump? What is your volume?

Yes you want to try and circulate at least one an hour.

If Jason can controll his stock and feeding, I am sure he will get away with a circulation of once every 2 hours.
I use to do that for a long time and no problems was had.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I already have the propoise. Wish I had known that. Well, I`m actually redoing our pond. Not sure what the total volume will be yet but should be about 35 000l to 40 000l so i might need so more advice on a few things a bit later.

It sounds fine at this stage depending on what you are going to do with your filtration. This pump will work if you dont let the head get too high.

Do you mean the height the water travels out the pump? Sorry if thats a dumb question.

I mean "no of fish" "amount of food fed" and "pond volume" circulated once, every two hours. IE; if for excample your system holds 40,000 Lt your pump must deliver 20,000 Lt at the outlet.(not on paper).

No, when they refer to pump height, it is a calculation of everything that has a influence or resistance of the water flow until it reaches its point of free flow again. Like how high does the pump have to deliver the water to reach that point. how much friction will be in the pipelines, how high above water level will the pump be installed, etc. When a pump,s delivery volume is given it is normally given at ideal conditions with a 1 meter head. So you allways have to allow for all this. It sometimes comes as a surprize how much losses is incurred.
These pumps are all centrifugal pumps and one can close the valve and have 0 flow, or they can only pump water to a certain hight and then there is 0 flow.

Ok, thanks. What pump/s would you recomend for a (+ -) 40 000l pond. Would two 1.1kw be too much? Also, can you run 2 sand filters on 1 pump. Say for example 1.1kw pump with a 3 bag and a 2 bag filter. would they have enough pressure? If so, would you have one after each other or split after the pump into both or ??

I do understand that you are starting off with a particular pump. I hope you have evaluated both basic filters systems to make an informed decision before you start to build. Both will work, both with different layouts and cost structures depending on location of pond. Only one system will ensure long term Eskom friendly accounts.

I have yet to meet a keeper that has not considered to change over to the gravity fed option to save on electricity, but find the changeover problematic due to pressure design of pond.

So I want to suggest to design the pond layout to accommodate both for a changeover possibility when needed.

I`ll be honest , I don`t know that much about the gravity fed option. If you could maybe draw me a diagram of a filter system you would recomend for a - 40 000l pond. I`ll try post some pictures of the existing pond and dexplain the changes that are going to be done. How much does the 1.1kw cost a month to run?

I dont want to get involved here on the design of your filtration system, it is a specialised item and depends on a lot of factors.
You will be best adcised to ask Chris Neaves for his input, he has studied various systems for many years and is extremely knowledgeable on the subject.
I just want to say that a sand filter is not a presurised system at all, it is only an enclosed system. The larger pumps are mainly installed to be able to backwash properly, lately this is overcome by the use of a blower or compressed air, as is used on "buble bead filters" and others.

Even a gravity filter needs for the water to be "pumped" at sometime. The word "gravity filter" is realy misleading.

As I have said I did it on my 25,000 Lt pond pump capacity was 12,000 Lt per hr, for about 3 years, without any problem.

Colyn in Nelspruit does a lot less.

And as said a lot depends on no off fish, filtration, airation etc, etc. I certainly would be very comfortable with an every 2 hour turnover rate.
