PostSubject: Moving Koi from QT to main pond   Tue Apr 20, 2010 11:47 am

My WC grow and show Kohaku is still in QT and I want to keep it this way since it is easier to catch in QT to take photos. The problem I have is that it keeps following the 62cm Kohaku all across the pond. I need to move the larger Koi to my main pond and would like to know if it will be cruel to separate these two buddies??

Hopefully I will take better photos when I place Koi in bowl. To many reflections on these pics - sorry

It will need a buddy. You cant leave it alone by itself.

Thanks Wayne.

Think I will add 3 or 4 Koi of 30cm's with him in QT and move the larger one to main pond. What will be the best? To buy 4 new Koi, or take some out of main pond and place them in QT?

Dont risk using a new fish as a budy now. You know that kohaku is clean so use one of your existing fish.

Koi will almost always follow the biggest fish around. DON'T EVEN TRY TO ADD NEW KOI WITH THIS ONE. If you're using water from your main pond in the quarantine pond then just add 1 or 2 from the main pond with this one and move the bigger kohaku to the main pond. A koi should always have a QT buddy.

I would advise to do a PP dip on the big one before putting it into the main pond though.... This is just to get rid of any unwanted bacteria that might be present in the QT.

I agree with Chris
PP dip both ways between ponds.
