PostSubject: Deal or No Deal??   Fri Mar 12, 2010 8:41 am

Hi all

Here are some better pics of the Marudo kohaku I posted previously.... The benigoi is just his quarantine buddy.

After looking at these pics what do you guys think? For R1500 - Deal..... or No Deal?? (Jaco...)

Also please look at the 2nd & 3rd pic. Notice the "hump" on the head area where the scales start. Don't know what it's called but I've noticed it on many of the Japanese breeder's fish. Have a look at the fish for auction which Bobby posted yesterday....
http://www.sakai-ff.com/auction-2y.html
Many of them seem to have the same thing. What is this called and what does it mean to the koi that have this? Could it have anything to do with groth potential?

The Hi looks like a good quality Hi, Its nice and even colour all over the koi and the white looks good. The pattern is too full for me but for R 1500 for a 50cm fish its a bargain. Has it been confirmed to be a female?

Seeing as you want the koi for breeding i would suggest you get male with more white to pair up with her otherwise the ofspring will be mostly benigoi.

It's swimming in my quarantine pond. I checked when I took the pics and it's female.

Take it - thats my short answer. Exclamation

Its a good fish. From my little experience with breeding the size, bodyshape and hi colour is very important with the mother. I am not refering to the hi intensitiy but rather the quality if the hi. The white quality is important with the males.

Dont breed with a shiro muji male or male that is loosing his colour. Also dont breed with any if they have hikui.

I have not done so much breeding as Jaco and Collin so they can maybe tell you more but that is what i have been told.

Regarding the "hump". What do you guys think of this thread I found? Would you agree with these comments?

Hi Chris
The hump is one of the signs for potential growth, so is a thick peduncle and sometimes small tail fin, many more let the experts answer. In my opinion the bloodline and mommy has the final say.
