| In my opinion it would be the Go-Sanke, which is the Kohaku, Sanke and Showa, followed by the Shiro Utsiri. Well that is mainly what is in my collection and I love watching them. |

| Go-Sanke of which Kohaku are at the top. Most hobbyists start and end with Kohaku and you will very seldom see a collection without a Kohaku. _________________ Paul Viljoen E Mail: koi@absamail.co.za ; http://www.koionline.co.za

| I think if you looked at which koi are there more of in peoples ponds from the garden collector to the serious hobbyist, I would say about 30% of that total would be ogon or kohaku of some form |

| Hi,
I would think, it is a toss-up between Ogon and "Bling" Koi. |

| If i have to take an guess i would say its Yellow and white Ogons and as pieter said the "bling, bling" variaties. if you ask a woman what koi she likes 90% of the time she will point out a yellow ogon the other 10% of the time she wont have an opinion...propably no yellow ogon in the pond. The more seriouse koi keepers (or atleast the once that know the names of the variaties) tend to go for gosanke, utsurimono and asagi/shesui. The other variaties are more commerical for the "not so serious" koi keepers. My father has some koi and almost all the kois are ogons or doits bling, bling variaties. There's not a single gosanke in his collection not even a crappy looking kohaku or sanke. When my father and my brothers started the koi pond 2-3 years ago i was given strict instructions that they did not want any spotty kois "gevleke kois" and unfortunaly gosanke and utsurimono falls under their spotty koi category. They wanted kois that are solid red, yellow, white, black, brown and blue....the blue kois where a challenge but luckily i found a few asagis without hi. I bought them a beautiful 12cm malaysian kohaku once when they came to visit me and this koi mysteriously died while being transported while all the others survived. |

| Thanks Wayneb,
The reason why I am asking is because-
I might imort some koi from Japan,
These are what i\'m looking at:
From Urakawa (Torazo)- who is know for his Kohakus and Sankes:
High Quality-Kohaku\'s Size-14cm-16cm
High Quality-Sankes Size-14cm-16cm
Kaneko Koi farm-Who began breeding in 196, Kujyaku, Shiro Utsuri, Kohaku, Showa, Sanke, Hikari Mono and Kawarimono.:
High Quality-Shiro Utsuri\'s Size-14cm-16cm
Please help me out on what to chose, I can only choose two of the three options. These young koi are going to be sold to collectors. At competetove prices.
Thanks Everyone,
David

| Any choice you make will be ok. Torazo specialises in both sanke and kohaku and kaneko in shiro utsuri. So you win whetever you pick.
I think torazo is slightly more known for their sanke than kohaku but their kohakus are also exellent.
If it where me then i would go for kohaku and utsuris, sankes are difficult to breed and proper looking sankes are few. One never really get proper sankes as tosai. You will most propably end up with aka sankes.

Hi David
Just 2 things on my mind.
1) Serious Koi collectors don't buy koi @ 14 to 16 cm the risk is too high, only General Koi keepers do.
2) Kaneko doesn’t specialize in Gosanke but definitely in Kujaku, Shiro Utsuri, Benikiokuryu & Hikarimono. I should know I visit him every year for the past 7 years. |
