| Mambo#5 is in QT and and is served on for all his needs by yours truly personally. I have already noticed a vast improvement in quality and size since his arrival in Gauteng! |

| Hi Adi Happy to hear all is well, your no 6 is privileged in a 2500 QT tank, mine will have to do in 1000LT space. Well it seems we all can congratulate ourselves for using QT system and therefore setting a good example. |

| How do you measure a Koi? Is it from tip of nose to back of tail or beginning of tail or middle tail? Sorry to ask stupid things but I have plenty to learn since I only see my fish 2months a year |

The 2010/2011 WCKC Sakai Kohaku Grow and Show rules. 1. To qualify for the prize the participants must post a picture of Sakai grow and show koi every 2 months. The competition will start on 01 March 2010 and will run until 28 February 2011, the judges will have 10 days to deliberate and to appoint the winner.
Time frame rules. Pictures every 2 months and closing date. At the same time participants must declare Size and percentage growth always based on the measurements in your Koi picture. |

| Hi Jan, Drikus, Mario When time permits for ease of reference when you post your Show and Grow please enter your pond specifications as part of your signature. You enter on your profile and on top, you will see signature. Next will be a blank box were you can enter and save your details.
From the 27th onwards we will be ready to move our Show and Grow from the QT facilities. Please feel free to post your QT experience and your assessment when transferring Koi to bigger waters. |

| This is a copy and paste comment written by dick benbow - Quote :
- Keeping Koi will always be about "the Dream". It's interwolvened in the optimistic character of the keeper. But the reality is the fun and companionship of other keepers that makes this hobby what it is. What joy would it be if you had the best in the world and you couldn't share it with others.
I sincerly hope that we will all learn from this Show and Grow experience and have fun with the Sakai Kohaku's. |

| Subject: My pick Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:02 pm | |
| I have my pick of the best Koi here. I won't make it public since there is no benefit to me doing so, only downside if I'm wrong (sorry Bobby - call it politics if you like) - but there is also the skill of the hobbyist which will play a big role. Personally growth on a high qualty Koi doesn't worry me that much - I prefer to see Koi finishing at 8 or 9 years of age rather than 6 or 7 as seems to be the norm in our bigger faster better must have it now world.
Although, it is better to burn out than to fade away? For me with the price of these living jewels the longer I can enjoy my Koi for the better! Call it your return on investment on an artwork that has only one ultimate destiny.
So why anyone would pay top dollar for a finished Koi is beyond me. You can pick any of them up for next to nothing in Japan (relatively) - these being the R300 'show quality' Koi Kevin Harrison refers to I suppose. Ever stop to wonder WHY they are so cheap? Either the Japanese breeders (the only rich people we have ever met in the Koi industry) are idiots, or just perhaps they understand potential.
Take for example Paul Coetzee's Kohaku that won in KAX in 2008. Runner up in the All Japan, twice. Won in KZN in 2008, didn't place at all in 2009. I am sure it wasn't a cheap Koi. But it's potential was clearly limited - I doubt a Koi keeper in the leagues of Paul would only have been positive for the fish. |
