Kumonryu

The Kumonryu is a Doitsu (German) koi that has a jet black pattern that emerges like billowing black clouds against a white background. The black pattern is variable and unstable, disappearing with changes in the water temperature, reappearing sometimes as a completely different pattern.

The name Kumonryu is derived from a legend that tells of a dragon (Ryu) transforming into a cloud and racing through the sky.

The Kumonryu is said to have been developed by breeding a Shusui with a Matsukawa Bakke.

I found this fish in Dec 2008 at Tai Hsiang, it had just come out of quarantine and was just about to be placed into the holding ponds as the worker tipped the bowl the jet/lacquer black caught the sunlight and i bought it on the spot. It was the Kumonryu i had been looking for.

1. Pic 1/2 taken when i got home with it. (7.5cm)
2. Pic 3 Taken in the pond in Feb 09
3. Pic 4 was the ID pic taken for the baby show, in Sept where it got third place size 2 Non Metallic. (22cm)

Thanks Wayne.

My little supreme size1 from the baby show in sept is also doing well.(the one in my avatar)
I also bowled her, but forgot to turn on the macro function so the pics aren't all that great.

I feed Sakura exclusively and supplement with my own homemade seafood mix, and brown rice and molasses on occasion.

The changing patterns are what attracts me to the kumonryu, and also the contrast between the pure white and the Jet/lacquer black. A big one in ones pond is just stunning!!!
Dr Jim's is truly awesome in my opinion the best one i have ever seen in the person.
