HI Well it is a sanke but not for long, the hi (red) will probaly fade away and then you will be left with a reasonable BEKKO.
Body shape is fairly good.

Hi,

Yes, it is a Sanke.
A very poor Sanke, the shoulder area is to white, and on the photo it looks like there is no more Sumi to come.
I think the Hi will stay, but if it will lose the Hi, it will be a poor Bekko as well.

I Agree with Pieter affraid tongue , I dont think the hi will be fading much more than what it already has.

I see some pink infront of the dorsal fin and on the nose of the koi. That is either hi that is still going or it indicates bad quality skin.

The body shape is actually pretty good and i also think that more sumi will be appearing.

You can try and breed with it and hope that the mating helps the koi to loose more hi.

You need to pick sankes with more hi.

A sanke must have the 3 colour in harmony. That means red, white and black must be spaced evently and equallity over the body of the koi.

Some guidlines on how to pick a sanke:
1. The koi must have a snow white nose.
2. Judges preferer to have the first sumi (black marking) on the shoulder of the koi preverably on a white background.
3. It is also prefered to have some tajima (stripes) on the pectoral fins of the sanke.
4. The black sumi markings must look like small stepping stones across a river. 1 here and 1 there. But the sum markings are down to personal taste in the end. I prefer small markings.

There are more things to look for but those are the basics.

The Japanese view the body of the koi as a canvas like that of a painting. The colours of the koi must form a beautifull picture with all the colours in harmony. The one must not dominate the other.

Heres an example of a good sanke.

This one is good aswell but its obvious that this photo has been doctered.

Hi David. To be honest, Sankes are propably the most difficult to get a proper example of in South Africa and i dont own one. Uncle Bobby has a nice specimen.

They are actually the most difficult koi to breed as far a i understand.

And if you find a proper example it would propably cost a arm, a leg and 2 kidneys. You can often find Aka Sankes but real Sankes are hard to come by.

Heres an example of a Aka Sanke of mine that took 1st in George this year. Its unfortuantly no longer with us. It was a 2 year old Yamazaki Sanke and was 59cm

Poor water quality, hard water, stress, not a thick layer of hi(red) or in general poor bloodline.

PostSubject: Green in Koi?   chagoi - SANKE EmptyFri Jan 08, 2010 3:52 pm

Thanks for answering my previous question. I have a number of young Koi with dark green-khaki sides and silver spines. I suppose the green will become some other colour as they grow - they are about 10cm long at the moment - because I dont seem to find pictures of Koi with green in anywhere one the web. Blasting you with questions because I'm completely new to this.

Sounds like a Midorigoi, maybe even a Chagoi cross?

When Chagoi are small, they sometimes appear green, but turns brown later.

Please post photos.

Hi,

The photo in the previous post is not a Midorigoi!

The fish in the photo is a Ki Shusui!

This is a Doitsu Midorigoi:

This is Wagoi Midorigoi:
