PostSubject: Adi's new pond   Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:47 am

Ok, almost finished put have a nice record of the process. The pond is in Midrand, on a small holding, we have borehole water, and lots of space.

Pond consists of a top, small pond, about 30cm deep, planted and stocked with some tilapia and 4 gold fish, as well as a bull frog. It has water lillies, yellow and white. Looking for red and blue (in case somebody has for sale). Total volume around 2500l.

The bottom pond, is around 45000l and is build from bricks with a coincrete filled cavity. We have 3 bottom drains, and 3 filter chambers, that are emptied by 2x .75kW pumps. One pumps returns water to the top pond, to cascade back via the waterfall.
The second pump, goes via a E-Clear UV clarifier, back into the pond.
The filter boxes will use filter material filter media from Trebo Plastics.

Both ponds are sealed with Corporox carcoal, and the top pond has been running for about 14 months now. Work that still needs to be done:

- Finsih the floor waterproofing in the big pond
- Clean the bottom drains
- Fit piping for airation
- run cable from main house
- And fit covers over the filters (not happy there yet, used Nutec boards on a welded frame) Nutec is not stablke enough.

Hoping to complete this to put water in this weekend.

The frames are welded, but my idea of Nutec board is not working, need to find soemthing else to use as cover.

Looking good Adi. A wooden cover for filters should look great with the tiles

What type of Tilapia do you have ... reason I ask is your design will definitely allow lots of the tilapia to end up in your koi pond.
