PostSubject: and its raining   Sat Oct 17, 2009 6:35 pm

Wanted to finish the pond today. Had two challenges:

From the building the was concrete in the bottom drains, sorted.....
and its raining, can sort that so given up for today, will try angain tomorrow

To be realistic water next weekend, sniff

On the tilapia question, they are the blue variaty, they share that pond with some yellow fish and carp.

The intenstion is also to keep some yellow fish and big big carp with the koi at the bottom. Have 3 carp that are close to 8 kg each, that need to be transferred soonest....

PostSubject: ok, we are ready   Mon Oct 19, 2009 11:54 am

Ok, we are ready, yesterday we finished applying all teh Corprox, all done! Package says allow to dry for 24hours, and yes we had no rain.

Electricity is connected, only work to be done is screwing the filter covers into place. I ended up using marine ply that was painted.

Then only other activity still missing is cleaning the filter chambers (all three) and then packing the filter media in. Should be able to start filling on Saturday morning......

The most exciting part.

PostSubject: Ok, we are getting there   Tue Oct 27, 2009 9:26 am

After a hectoc weekend, Saturday was spent doing minor small fixes in the pond on the filters. Sunday morning saw a clean, and then "WATER". Started filling at 11h00 and stopped at about 21h00 that night. Resumed Monday after work, found a small leak between the filter chambers 1 and 2 where the pipes connect. Fixed that last night, with a home made plan. Used Coprox water proofing, they also have a waterproof crack filler. If you mix teh crack filler and the water proofing to a sludge, you get a sludgy waterproof crack filler, that hopefully did the trick. Resumed filling water this morning, about 50cm still missing hoping to put that in night.

Are you measuring the volume of water you are adding?

It is really a lovely pond, nice size, and very neat. Would love to see it after the final touches, plants and fish. Well done!

Are you going to put netting over?

Does anybody have any suggestions / recommendations for a net person / place?

The best place is Alnet, who supply about 90% of all outlets, but they do sell to the public. http://www.alnet.co.za

Branches in Midrand, Cape Town(Epping), Durban and PE

PostSubject: and these things are here to test us   Wed Oct 28, 2009 3:38 pm

Water almost full, but had a leak over night, the inlet into the pond, and the connecting pipes, to the UV light was not sealed properly...so we leaked a lot of water, but that is fixed now. Hopefully tonight we can fill up to the edge, and get the pumps working.

Curious to see, bit skeptical if the one pump is maybe a bit strong, its pumping into the top pond alone, and then returns via the waterfall. Those pumps are 15000l per hour so......will see, might be too strong and would need to reduce a bit. This will be tested tonight!

PostSubject: and still leaking   Thu Oct 29, 2009 8:37 am

And we still have a leak, the inlet is still leaking. So this morning this is being chisseled out, illed with RockGrip, then waterproof crack filler miixed with Corprox water proofing. Hopefully that will do the trick......
Could not resist and put in two small koi yesterday, with 12cm each they are the testers, and are happy! 2 small koi and 48000l water must be fun......fish for the weekend depend on getting the leak fixed....
