PostSubject: A new mud pond at Orient Koi Farm   Fri Jun 06, 2008 7:53 pm

Hi All

We started to develop a new mud pond in the G section of the farm it is named G2. This pond is 20m longer then G1. This pond will only be used for Nisai and Sansai, we will only drag this pond every 12 months or if there is a problem.

The demotions are:

Length 100m
Width 50m
Depth Average 3m
Depth Max 6m
Depth Min 1.5m
Pond Volume 18.6mil/L
Project duration 2 months
Projected Cost R 50 000.00
Earth works duration 3 days, cost R 26 700.00, R13 000.00 over budget.
The compaction cost was R 2100.00

We will edit the cost on this posting as we continue with the project.

20 Ton Bull Dozer ( This is the same one that we used on G1 2 years ago.

Notice the diffrentce in the clay colour one said is gray and the other said is red/yellow

My two daughters Bernice 16 1.8m tall and Aideen 9 1.3m tall in the deepend of the pond

100 meters away in the shallow end of the pond

We will start the compacting process tomorrow (Saturday) the pond is already compacted with the 20 ton Bull Dozer, but we need to compact some more with a 2.5 ton roller.

I will post more photos tomorrow.

WOW! Colin, you clearly mean business. I think I will have to send you and Lee-Ann a plain ticket for Cape Town and an invite to the good old Cape for a small "holiday" to help me with my mud dams planned for August. You can sit on the bulldozer and I will supply the "liquids".

I will give you enough time to learn from your mistakes(if any) to ensure that you are able to give me professional advice afterwards. lol!

(Cheaper to learn from other people's mistakes)

I might even keep a little space for your own "Cape Town Mud Dam" to keep some of your jewels here for the annual Cape Town shows.

Thanks for sharing the photos and please keep us posted. We are following with anticipation.

Hi Paul

Thank you for the offer we will most gladly accept. We don’t make any mistakes any more only improving on the previous mud ponds. The only mistake we still make is they are always too small.
Just remember August is a very busy month in the koi world……….show………..show………..show……….harvest…………breeding etc.

Hi Pieter

It is because they dont have mud only sand lol!

We have started to dig the trench for the water feed to the pond today. I think I should have a mining qualification for this though…….the main water supply is 2m above the side of the pond.

Hi Rod

This one is for the 2012 team, they must still learn to swim. With all the politics in sport to day you should know that most of them can’t swim. Laughing
