The one on the right hand side is a Sanke X Showa F1

The one on the left hand side is a (Sanke X Showa F1) x (Sanke)

Although both are not high quality koi, but i hope you can see the different of the sumi.

"Sanke X Showa F1" has bigger sumi pattern, this koi is actually a by-product when a breeder trying to use showa's sumi to improve a sanke's sumi. I don't know why, i find this kind of koi's hi fade very easily.

"(Sanke X Showa F1) x (Sanke)" improved sumi, very black sumi and stable, also the hi is more stable than the "Sanke X Showa F1".

Please note that both koi never eat any colour enhance before.

The above is only my opinion, so if i am wrong please forgive me.
Thanks.

Hi SAS

So, is crossing a black based koi and a white based koi not problematic?

With showa you usually keep the black ones and with sanke the red and white ones but what do you keep when crossing them?

I prefer the sanke type sumi that looks like small fine stepping stones instead of the blodgy sumi spots off sumi.

Hi Wayne,

For both koi, i didn't spawn the parents myself. I received the eggs from my friend who spawned it. So, i didn't use any of my own koi to spawn them.

Crossing a Showa and a Sanke is problematic. As you can see the first generation off spring on the right hand side stay small and is loosing her hi. And the second generation off spring on the left hand side don't have good body shape and have large size sumi.

But the point of doing this, is just to improve the sumi quality. As you can see the Sanke on the left hand side do have very black sumi.

And my idea is, the next step is to breed the Sanke on the left hand side with a Sanke of good body shape and sumi of small size. But unfortunately, i haven't found one that satisfy my requirements yet.

regards,
SAS
