| Hi Phillip Welcome to the forum. The top fish is a doitsu sanke and the bottom one a Hariwake. The fish are still very small and it is always difficult to judge a fish when so small, especially from a photo. However, both are low petshop quality. The hi (red) on the sanke makes the fish totally unbalanced, Only red on the right front side. The sumi(black) is concentrated on the back(dorsal) with no stepping stones and the sumi that already appeared, is of low quality. Herewith a photo of how a doitsu sanke should look like, and if you compare it, you will understand. Sharp patterns, deep red, strong black, good balance between red white and black and well placed, good skin quality, perfect background(white) good bodyshape etc etc. The hariwake show pink through which is a bad sign, it appears as if black is going to come through behind the head, the metallic pattern not sharp and unbalanced(on the head and no pattern on the body) However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if you like it, who are we to judge? They are still small, and might just develop into nice pond fish. Enjoy them and learn through their development. |

| I appreciate the iformation that you gave me regarding these two koi. I am still a novice at the koi game, but would like to become an expert as time goes by. Information like that is a sign of a true koi expert. Thank you |

| Hi, I think the one on the top is a Sanke, but not a Doitsu Sanke. Cause if i look carefully, i can see scales on the koi. Am i wrong? sas |

| sas, the koi does have scales, but very small. The photo above is about 5 months old and I ave noticed that the black on the koi has increased in depth. |

| Hi Tony Still looks like a Doitsu Sanke with mirror scales to me. Mirror scales does not make it Wagoi. (however, the photo is not very good) |

Hi, Phillip1985
Thanks for your reply.
May i ask is the koi's whole body covered with scales or just have a few scales on the left and the right hand side?
It is normal for this specific koi that the black colour on this koi increase in depth as it grow.
Thanks. sas |

| sas, the koi has scales on the side, but none of them looks miror like to me, but that said, my knoledge on kois is still very limited. I will take another photo of the koi and post it, so that you can draw a comparisson between then and now ( almost like before and after photo on these makeover shows haha) Thanks |

| The Sanke is a normal full scalled koi, or that is what I see. _________________ Jaco Vorster
