| Niigata is situated in the northern part of Japan where most of the top koi breeders in the world are located.
Powerful earthquake slams Niigata.
Seven dead and more than 830 injured.
It is unknown if any breeders have been affected.

| Yet another eartquake in Niigata yesterday registering 3.5. Aftershocks are expected.
The most famous koi breeeders in the world are situated in Niigata and the breeding season has just started in Japan.
Earthquakes affect spawning of koi negatively and more quakes can affect the whole 2008/2009 season, influencing quality and prices of Koi available for import to South Africa.
