I have noticed this morning that one of the South African suppliers of Hikari koi foods guarantees freshness of most of their Hikari foods for either two or three years depending on the type of Hikari.

The expiry date of most of the South African foods is less than a year.

What do you think of the Hikari claim?

I think it is because of the price and the time it takes to sell, not worth getting a container load if they are going to expire before you sell it.
If it were cheaper I would use it, good food, but not at that price.

I agree that it is an excellent food, but, there is no ways that it can stay fresh for three years as claimed.

That is the problem with all imported food. By the time it finally clears customs and go onto our shelves, quite a few months have passed. Most importers are forced to buy in bulk. So, by the time you buy some of their last stock, another few months have passed. If you also buy in bulk, add another few months until you feed the last of your stock.

By then, all the vitamins and other nutrients are gone.

Nee wat, local is lekker.
